If you have images on your website always fill your ALT tags. Unique content updated as often as possible, preferably daily will also help your ranking in the major search engines. All these bits of SEO advice are just tips, the most important thing when building a website for good rankings is quality. Write a quality website with quality content about what you know and the search engines will want to find you. Backlinks are one way to increase not only your google pagerank but also your search engine ranking. This in turn increases your internet traffic which if you have good content should increase your profitability.
